Stop comparing someone's chapter 10 to your chapter 1

I have been hearing a lot lately about how someone has the best career or someone has the best relationship or the best body or the best leadership skills.

You know what I say? I say how long have they been working for it? How long have they been putting themselves out there, failing, getting up, and doing it over and over and over again.

We tend to overlook all the different chapters in someone's life that they've had to go through to arrive where they are today. We tend to forget how long it actually takes and the incredible mess most of us feel like we are making before ever seeing any real progress.

So stop comparing someone's chapter 10 to your chapter 1.

Instead, focus on what your chapter 1 looks like and what you want your chapter 10 to be. And then guess what- map out the steps that are needed to get there.

It's like building a treasure map but the biggest twist is that once you get the treasure you don't stop. You WILL get to chapter 10 but will you recognize it or complain that you aren't at chapter 20?

Life's never going to get easier when you accomplish something. Life's going to get easier when you start becoming more present and focusing on what's in front of you.

Life's going to get brighter when you start seeing what's already lit up around you.

That doesn't mean that things don't fall apart or that you aren't allowed to have bad days. All it means is that you see more beauty than pain in the world. You see more progress than defeat and most of all you see yourself growing in the direction YOU want.
